Ham Radio Users to chat with astronauts in orbit
The Malaysian Amateur Radio Emergency Service Society (Mares) will hold its annual conference this year with a lot of new surprises - HITBSecConf 2009. The conference will focus on network security, but as usual the lock picking contest will be one of the highlights. In addition to this, the amateur ham users who generally provide communication during times of disaster or disrupted links will try their hands on something different. They will actually chat live with astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS). It is to be held from October 5 to 8 and will teach people on how to protect property at both home and in cyberspace.
‘Mares’ are a strictly non-profit organization. It can be thought of as a scientific NGO, but endorsed by Malaysian communication spheres. Those who saw the movie ‘Bank Job’ and were impressed by the things ham radios could do should definitely head here, of course if you are based in Malaysia.
